My name is Chineme Stephen Workah, from Rivers State, Nigeria. I am applying for the
Erasmus Mundus Master in Decentralised Smart Energy Systems (DENSYS 2.0).
I graduated with a First-Class degree in Electrical Engineering from the
University of Port Harcourt, where I completed my studies with a final CGPA of
4.55/5.00. During my undergraduate training, I built a solid foundation in renewable energy systems, control systems, power engineering, and advanced mathematics. I also led several group projects, including my final-year project where my team and I designed and implemented a
dual-axis solar tracking system. Through embedded systems and real-time sensing, we enabled dynamic panel orientation to improve energy capture efficiency.
Growing up in Nigeria, where access to reliable electricity remains a persistent challenge, I witnessed how energy limitations hinder community development, productivity, and quality of life. These experiences shaped my motivation to contribute to innovative, sustainable, and efficient energy solutions, particularly in regions with fragile energy infrastructure.
I chose
Université de Lorraine for the first phase of the programme because of its interdisciplinary approach to decentralized energy systems and strong theoretical foundation. For specialization,
KTH Royal Institute of Technology stands out for its excellence in smart grids, energy system modeling, and control. The programme’s structure, culminating in a research-focused thesis on modeling, control, and optimization of decentralized smart energy systems, aligns perfectly with my academic interests and career goals.
Although some of my undergraduate work was simulation-based, it revealed the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world energy challenges.
DENSYS 2.0 offers the ideal bridge between theory, practical application, and research-driven innovation.
I believe I am a strong candidate for this scholarship because of my solid background in electrical engineering and my long-term goal of contributing to sustainable, intelligent, and decentralized energy systems, particularly across Africa where reliable energy access remains a major challenge.
Thank you for considering my application.
